Music is a great mood boosting tool. There is no better feeling than listening to your favourite artists and bands. Music can also be used as a tool to support memory, remember that song your mum would sing you to sleep? Hearing that again can take you right back to that moment and can spur on happy emotions. 

Music not only triggers memories, it can have a long lasting effect on increasing your memory overall. That is why we incorporate music into our activities and around our homes. We have carefully selected a range of playlists through the help of our residents and also just a general selection of songs throughout the decades to help our residents reminisce. 

Music can also increase alertness, and stimulates the brain which is extremely important for those living with dementia. Playing feel good songs in the morning can get our residents up and ready for the day, which then brings around a sense of purpose which can also benefit mental health.

Music can also bring a sense of connection with our friends and loved ones. Although some of our music tastes are ‘niche’ as humans we share a lot of likeness in our tastes. Music can be a way our residents find common likeness with their fellow residents. It can be a somewhat bonding experience which contributes to socialisation and overall well being.
